China 2006 |Trip
FACT

FACT: total travelled in China on trains + long distance buses was 271 Hours!!!

If you're just joining me, please feel free to check out the records of my travels from February - June 2006 in China. I am returning to China in August 2007 as part of my Chinese course at Leeds University.

You know you've been in China a long time when.....
  • You know that there are 4 fake brands of Oreos and you know all their names. Predictably they taste horribly.

  • You are surprised when the toilet on the sleeper bus works (out of 5 sleeper buses only the last one's toilet worked)

  • You still get ripped off/missold things when a man tells you the boat at 8pm is going to go round the Taiwanese island. He doesn't tell you that the boat only goes during the day round the island and at night it stays in between the mainland and the very island(gulangyu) in which you are staying. So you see the same view that you see on the ferry every day and have to spend an hour and a half on the boat.

  • Even when you get ripped off, you feel good that you bargained hard before buying the ticket so you spent 30RMB less per ticket than the other foreigners there.

  • You say prices too low when you bargain.

  • You miss rice when you don't have it and think you might be getting cravings.

  •  Chinese people are impressed with the amount of places you've been.

  • You can say your stories and some other stuff in Chinese.

  • When you speak English you still make the gestures you would make in Chinese.
